GOP Rep. Tom Tiffany Says He’s Opposed to the National EV and Hybrid Registration Fee That’s in the ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’

‘The federal gov’t is so inefficient in transferring money back to the states’

EXCERPT:

BALLASY: "So you probably saw that the bill right now, as it stands, has a $250 annual fee for EVs, $100 for hybrids, a federal fee. Do you support that? Do you think it’s a good idea in and why?"

TIFFANY: "No, I think that we should allow those fees just by the states. I’m not a big fan of federal government horning in on the states' ability to be able to finance their roads."

BALLASY: "Yeah, because the rationale has been, up to this point, federal tax, a gas tax is not being paid by electric vehicles or fully by hybrids. So does that change your view at all, when it comes to the federal gas tax?"

TIFFANY: "Yeah, I would prefer that they leave it to the states. And the federal government is so inefficient in transferring money back to the states because, I mean, ultimately what they do is transfer it to the states, states then take it into their local projects or whatever. It’s just better if it's done by the state, because otherwise money gets siphoned off here. Less money actually goes to asphalt and steel."
