NYT’s Bazelon on Charges Against Dem Officials: It’s a ‘Pattern’ and It Sends a ‘Chilling Effect’
EXCERPT:
BAZELON: “It does look like a pattern. Even when judges toss bad cases, when people are under investigation and have been indicted, that is a big deal in their lives and certainly it can have a chilling effect on other folks. And so to think about, in this circumstance, arresting — charging a congresswoman from the opposing party who was going in some form of protest, those are all very sensitive matters, right? A president going — a president’s Justice Department — and Trump does consider this to be his Justice Department, he has said that — the Justice Department going after someone in another branch from a rival political party who was trying to exercise oversight in the form of protest, those are three things that we would never expect to see until now."
