Tim O’Brien: Comey’s ‘Bad Judgment’ Has Given Trump the ‘Chance He’s Been Waiting For’ to Exact Vengeance

O’BRIEN: “Having said all of that, it also gave Trump probably a chance he’s been waiting for, for quite some time, which is to take vengeance on one of the sort of bright lights of the Russiagate era of Trump 1.0. And there were so many dimensions to that time and so much that was improper about how Trump bounced off of the Comey investigation, which I still believe was founded on very legitimate bona fides. There’s been a lot of criticism of the meat of that investigation, but it had a very good reason to begin, and it probed very real things. And throughout, Trump didn’t hesitate to try to meddle with the law, from the intersection with Michael Flynn to the investigation itself, which prompted, in part, the Mueller investigation for obstruction of justice. And Comey is one of these billboard figures, in Trump’s mind, for the deep state unfairly prosecuting him and persecuting him. And I think it was just a matter of time before they found some reason to go after Jim Comey, and he gave them one."
