Schmidt on the Comey Investigation: This Is the First Major Example of Them Using Their ‘Criminal Powers’ Against a Trump Adversary

‘There is nothing that really can stop the Trump Administration from investigating’

EXCERPT:

SCHMIDT: "But we’ve seen far less on the criminal side of them using the Justice Department, something that, you know, in September at the Times, we spent thousands and thousands of words on just that question. How would he use the criminal powers? And that’s the thing, like, was he going to lock Liz Cheney up? Was he going to lock James Comey up? And what we see here is one of — is not the first, but one of the first major examples of them using their criminal powers against a Trump adversary, against a Trump perceived enemy, whatever you want to call Comey. And in that sense, it’s significant because there is nothing that really can stop the Trump Administration from investigating. You can’t really stop them from going out and trying to to question someone or trying to do something. And in this instance, they’re doing a criminal investigation into whether, you know, Comey, you know, incited whatever.”
