MATTHEWS: “When he comes here and speaks with a Chicago accent I’m sure he still has, it’s going to be a wondrous day for him to be back in the United States and talking to us with an American accent. I mean, it’s going to be amazing thing. We’ve had all these foreign popes, and now we’ve got one of our own. And Leo, when he said 'Leo,' I just jumped. I said, Leo XIII. This guy is going to be a social liberal. He’s going to be a progressive. He’s he’s concerned about the poor, about working wages, about a living wage. He talks like Sherrod Brown, actually, who talked about the dignity of work. Laborare est orare, or 'To work is to pray.' He’s a big part of that. To work in a factory is to pray. It’s so Catholic, so historic, and so much a part of our social tradition."
