Matthew Dowd: Trump’s ‘Broken Every Vow,’ Then ‘Hawks the Wedding Ring’ in His ‘Honeymoon Period’ with America

‘Where one spouse breaks every vow’

EXCERPT:

DOWD: "Yeah, I was thinking, when you mentioned the honeymoon period, you know, why has it not lasted at all, it's as if — you know, it’s a honeymoon period where one spouse breaks every vow that they took in the first 100 days of the marriage and then hawks the wedding ring. So, of course, you’re not going to have a honeymoon period if that happens in the course of this. He has broken every single promise that he made during the election. He said he was going to make inflation priority number one and fix the economy. That hasn’t happened. He said he was going to end the war in Ukraine on day one. That hasn’t happened. He said he was going to make China pay. That hasn’t happened. He said he was going to uphold the Constitution and unite the country. He’s done the exact opposite of that. So all of those things, I mean, either they’re completely misreading the results of the election, which I don’t think they are. I think people around him and I think he fundamentally knows that the people that voted for him and why he got reelected in a second term was because of independent voters. And the most startling number in all of these polls — and broad numbers are bad for Donald Trump, but the most startling numbers is nearly 70% of independent voters now disapprove of him as a president. That is a 50-point change to the worse since day one of his presidency, 50 points net lower among independents today than it was on day one. That’s the fundamental problem.”
