Chuck Schumer: If Trump Caves to Putin, It Will Send a Signal to Dictators Around the World That You Can Bully Him
EXCERPT:
SCHUMER: “Well, you never know with Donald Trump, reverend, because yesterday he said he had great talks with Putin, and then today he says the talks went poorly. And I don’t even know if they talked in-between the first time and the second time. Here’s what I worry about, reverend. I worry that Trump is going to give in to a bully like Putin, and that would be outrageous. It would be outrageous for three reasons. One, the Ukrainian people have fought so long and hard, and we’ve aided them, and now to abandon them would just be immoral. Second, our European allies will never do anything with us again. Here we encourage them to get involved, we said we’d stick with it. If Trump pulls out and caves to Putin, terrible. But third, what does it say to dictators around the world? It says you can get the better of Donald Trump. You can bully him. You can threaten him and he backs off. So I hope that Trump will stay strong, but I have no idea whether he will, because like in domestic policies, which we have talked about, there’s just chaos, different — he says different things in different times and you never know which is the truth or if any of them are the truth.”
