MSNBC Guest: ‘Trump Has Been Negotiating with Himself’; ‘You Cannot Have a Stock Market in a First World Country that Trades on Political News’

ARMSTRONG: “The interesting thing here, as David points out, is that Trump has been negotiating with himself. He’s not been negotiating with China or with Europe. He’s — if he’s been negotiating with anyone, he’s been negotiating with the market. And when the market has really shown its teeth, he’s backed down every time. And that’s good news if you think his policies about trade are wrong, which I do. But it’s no way to run a stock market. You cannot have a stock market in a first world country that trades on political news. It’s not sustainable. What markets are supposed to be for is giving you information about how much growth you’re going to have, what inflation is going to be, what corporate earnings are going to look like. And right now what the stock market is, is a Trump mood-o-meter. And this is not sustainable. And at some point if, again, if policy coming out of the White House doesn’t become more consistent, at some point the market moves are going to get really ugly because it just can’t trade in this volatile, crazy, news-sensitive way forever. It’s just not how a healthy market operates.”
