Rampell: We Don’t Know How Markets Will Interpret the Six Different Revisions to the Tariffs

RAMPELL: "I think the problem is not only do we not know how markets will interpret these tariffs, but we don’t know how markets will interpret the six different revisions to the tariffs. That could well happen between now and Monday will take. I feel like I feel bad for the cbp employees working at the country’s ports because from minute to minute the tariff rates change. Usually they’re supposed to have months to figure out, like how to get the paperwork in new systems in place. And in fact, there was a story on CNBC from CNBC, I think, yesterday about how actually no tariffs are being collected on a lot of these shipments because there’s a glitch in the system. Since there have been too many updates pushed through effectively under Trump, that they’re just not collecting any tariffs at all, and they’re hoping that they can figure it out later. So forget about the markets. Like how is any of this going to be operationalized. And then figure out how will that affect companies and how will that affect investors."
