Stephanie Ruhle: Corporate America Is Glued to the Sunday Shows Looking for a ‘Scintilla of Hope’
EXCERPT:
RUHLE: “And something that’s really important to remember is loss of trust. Okay? When companies, when countries cannot trust trade policies, when they can’t trust rule of law, they pull back, they stop investing. And they know that their input costs, what it’s going to cost them to operate, are going to skyrocket in this moment when we’re facing these tariffs. Now, could things turn around? Could the president negotiate in the next week? Could things change? Maybe. But there is no concrete evidence or even hints of evidence that that’s happening for anyone. And I can tell you, I spent the morning talking to investors and people in corporate America, C-suites, and they were glued to the Sunday shows, watching any possible member of this administration who is speaking on behalf of the president, give them a scintilla of hope that there’s positive news here. And what did they watch? They watched the administration tap-dancing. They watched the commerce secretary say things like, 'Wait until all those people who screw in your iPhones, who put together cell phones, are working in the United States.' That’s a crazy thought.”
