PAINTER: “Just a handful of Los Angeles residents have received approval to begin rebuilding their homes as of last week according to the Los Angeles times. The first permit issued was submitted to city inspectors on February 17th. It was approved March 5th. About two months after the fire swept through the Pacific palisades and surrounding area, destroying or seriously damaging more than 6,000 homes. The first permit was for repairs to a buyer- fire-damaged home. At least two other permits have been approved for a full home rebuild. And while these few permits are being touted as a milestone in the city’s recovery, local leaders and residents are create sizing the slow — criticizing the slow process. Council member tracy park said it was concerning that only four permits had been issued as of March 24th saying, quote with, I don’t think it’s a a lack of interest in rebuilding, I suspect it is indicative of systemic issues that we need to continue the focus on.”
