Carusone on DOGE: Elon Says People Will Get More Social Security and We Should Hold Him to It

CARUSONE: "Yeah. And rightfully so. Right. Because what they’ve demonstrated is not a lot of confidence here. And people have already seen some of the spillovers. You know, closing, getting rid of the guy that has the key to the bathroom in one of the parks. And you have to bring him back. I mean, nothing about this has been precise. And now you start to get where the rubber meets the road. They’re talking about Social Security and these benefits. And so, you know, it echoes some of the other things administration officials have said, which is that the only people that are concerned about this are fraudsters. And that’s part of the narrative that they’re out there spinning. You know, if you there’s really two things that guide I always look at the story and the two stories that the administration are telling is might makes right. And that’s sort of governing a lot of their foreign policy and their interactions with the rest of the world. And the ends justify the means that the reason that we’re doing this is for all of this corruption, all of these parasites as they describe them, that work for the government, all of these fraudsters that are sucking off the government. And so we have to do these things because that’s how you that that is totally acceptable. If we break a couple eggs, it’s okay, we’ll fix it. But I think that to me is the most consequential part of it. And there’s another part of the exchange that I think is significant, because you can see the unease that he even he begins to have here. And Democrats have jumped on to this and other of others. But he said, when we get rid of all this waste, don’t worry, your Social Security benefits are going to increase. Everyone that gets we should be out there saying, come on, you know, when all these Republicans and all these Democrats that are talking about, especially the Republicans that are saying, please preserve the benefits that we currently get, we should be asking them to make good on that promise, which is that he said, when he gets through with all these things, people are going to get more Social Security. Great. Let’s do it. If that’s if that’s what he says, let’s hold him to it. But that gets glossed over because it is so wrapped in this envelope of deceit and incompetence that we sort of ignore a lot of the comments that he makes, as that really would be policy in any other circumstance."
