GARCIA: "Look, sanctuary cities protect everyone, they create trust between police departments and community residents. In Chicago, we’re very proud of our history. This year will mark the 40th anniversary of Chicago being a sanctuary city. It’s been a leader nationally. We want to protect everyone. Whenever a criminal is identified and someone who has violated our laws, law enforcement has the right to get a warrant to pursue that person, and authorities will cooperate and they have, whether it’s Chicago Police Department, whether sheriff in Cook County, that’s what we have and that’s what builds safe communities."
