    EXCERPT:

DeLAURO: "No, the Democrats will continue to have leverage. I think that this was a mistake on the part of Senator Schumer and those Democrats who voted with him. It was a historic moment, if you will, when we would not give President Trump this victory. As a matter of fact, the president congratulated Senator Schumer on this, on this victory. We had an opportunity -- understand that there was a way out. And quite frankly, this has not been covered. The way out was the legislation that I introduced in the House and Senator Murray did in the Senate. We couldn’t get it in the House because we lost that vote, though we all voted against it. But in the Senate, there was this opportunity to do what Senator Murray said. And what I said was, let’s have a 30-day continuing resolution, let the Appropriations Committee hammer out the details where we could come to an agreement. And we were very, very close to coming to an agreement when the House leadership under Speaker Johnson and the White House said that they were better off, better off with a one-year continuing resolution because it is a transfer of power from the Congress, and that power of the purse, from the Congress to the executive. That was what was at stake. And there was a way out, and my Democratic colleagues didn’t take it. We had a way to do this and to do what was best for ordinary Americans. But we will continue to fight and have that leverage."
