Jonathan Martin on DOGE Firings: It’s Just Asking the Best People to Walk Away
EXCERPT:
MARTIN: “I think Trump obviously wants Elon to bring the efficiencies of a private company to the federal government, and Elon is doing to the federal government, or trying to, what he has done to the private sector. It just doesn’t work that way. And the upshot of it, tragically, for the federal workforce and for the country is that -- you guys know what’s going to happen. The people who have the best opportunities and the best options, are the most talented, are going to say, to borrow from the old country song, 'Take this job and shove it.' They’re going to walk. They’re going to go in the private sector, take that pension early, move down to the low country or 30A, Joe, and enjoy the rest of their life in their early 60s. And, you know, everybody else who is going to try to hang on is gonna go to court and try to keep their job. But it's just asking for the best people to walk and it's totally self-defeating."
