Fmr. Inspector General Mary Schiavo: The ‘Big Issue’ Now for the FAA Is ‘Development Has Moved out to the Airports’

‘How much development do you allow around a small airport?’

EXCERPT:

SCHIAVO: “Sometimes it’s very difficult to direct that plane to places other than populated areas. And, you know, that’s the, one of the issues also, again, for the FAA is how much development do you allow around a small airport? How much do you allow around a big airport? And in the last few decades, development has moved out to the airports and that’s a big issue now. So that’s another thing that will be looked at in this and many other accidents.”
