Strassel: It’s Clear that the Hush Money Trial was Held Without the Question of Whether or Not Trump Had ‘Immunity’
RUSH EXCERPT:
STRASSEL: "Well, Trump will appeal, and system people made a big deal out of the fact that the Supreme Court would not intervene to stop all of this. Essentially, what the Supreme Court said was the proper way for Donald Trump to deal with this was, indeed, an appeal. And, look, he’s going to have good grounds. The real mistake that I think that was made here by merchan was not actually nullifying this jury verdict after the Supreme Court issued its immunity ruling because it was clear that this trial was held without that question being taken into account, whether or not the president does have some immunity. And merchan stood on the grounds that somehow he needed to honor and respect this jury verdict. But the problem was that the entire process, in fact, the charges themselves were so stretched and so problematic, this is a case that should never have been brought. So Donald Trump will have a chance to continue fighting that, and it could well get back up to the Supreme Court."
