GOP Rep. Lawler: Removal of Mike Johnson as Speaker of the House Would Be ‘Idiotic’
EXCERPT:
LAWLER: "Look, it's on par with removal of Kevin McCarthy in 2023. It's idiotic. It does not serve an actual purpose except for that of one or a handful of people, you know, because of personal petty grievances. At the end of the day, the American people elected us to serve as a House Republican majority, along with a Senate Republican majority, and work with President Trump to address the challenges facing the American people, from the economy, to the border, to energy policy, to the international crises that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have left behind. We can’t do that if we can’t work as a team. And the reality is that you don’t to love the speaker, you don’t have to go to dinner with speaker. You do have to work with him. And the fact is, we have a very small margin in the House and there is no room for error here, there is no room for egos to take hold. We have a job to do on behalf of the American people. That is what is paramount. It requires all of us working together. And I'll reiterate what I said the other day: If any of these people think they are somehow going to have a stronger hand by removing Mike Johnson, they are not. Folks like me, who delivered this majority by winning seats that Kamala Harris won, are not going to bend to their will. So good luck if that is what you think is going to work. It's not. So let’s focus on the job at hand, let's support Speaker Johnson, and get to work when President Trump gets sworn in on January 20th."
