Conscious Advertising Network’s Murray: Climate Hoaxes Have Been ‘Supercharged by Algorithms’
EXCERPT:
MURRAY: “The economic incentive here is not about quality it is about scale. I spoke about opacity. Well, this is a system that lacks transparency. Research access has been obstructed, sometimes removed, and in cases we've seen litigation and research organizations sued around the world. There's also opacity on algorithms, and examples plentiful of where hoaxes and falsehoods have been supercharged by algorithms. And to be honest, advertisers often don't know where that $700 billion is going either. The average advertising campaign in the U.S. was found to run on 44,000 different websites. Impossible to do a complete inventory of that. And advertising fraud is estimated to be between any sort of number of 50 billion and 120 billion, which if you think about a $700 billion industry, is quite sizable.”
