Cruz to Debate Moderator Pressing Him on Abortion: ‘Why Do You Keep Asking Me?’
EXCERPT:
CRUZ: "Jason, I’m curious, why do you keep asking me that, but yet — hold on a second. I’ve asked Congressman Allred twice about his voting record and the fact that he voted to strike down Texas’ parental notification law and parental consent law. You haven’t asked him about that. That is his record. He doesn’t deny it. He gives language that is disconnected from the actual voting record he has. And listen, my view, I believe in democracy. If Congressman Allred does not like the decisions that the state legislature has made, if he doesn’t like the decision the governor has made, then he is welcome to run for state legislature and run for governor. But in Congress, neither one of us have a vote. I have not voted to strike down Texas’ law. Congressman Allred has — Congressman Allred has voted to tell you, a mother at home, you have no right to know if your daughter’s getting an abortion. That’s an extreme position. And I can tell you, the overwhelming majority of Texans do not agree with Congressman Allred's extreme position against parental rights, against the rights of a mom and dad to be with their daughter in a horrific and challenging time."
