John Heilemann to Dems: Don’t Read These Polls in This Kind of Insane Way; There’s Really Been Nothing To Learn from Them for a Month

‘It’ll be maybe the closest election of our lifetimes’

EXCERPT:

HEILEMANN: “And one of the most helpful things that’s happened in the last couple days because of this panic in the Democratic Party is that the Harris campaign finally allowed David Plouffe to go out and try to talk about the data on both Dan Pfeiffer's podcast, on 'Pod Save America' and New York magazine. I will tell you that David Plouffe is — he's a partisan and he fights for his team, but he is not a BS-er. If you read his assessment of the data, I think it is as clear — it's both sophisticated and clear-eyed as anything anybody could say. And the two campaigns do not disagree about this. What Plouffe basically says is, if you see a poll that has Harris up by four points, throw it in the trash. If you see a poll that has Trump up by four points, throw it in the trash. It is a tied race. It is uncomfortable for Democrats. It is a tied race. It’ll be a tied race all the way through to Election Day. It’ll be maybe the closest election of our lifetimes. Everyone is going to be scared if they care about the future of the country. But don't read this polls in this kind of insane way over the course of this period of time because there's really been nothing to learn from them for about a month and there's not going to be for another three weeks. Race was tied, the race is tied."
