Julian Castro: J.D. Vance’s ‘Freudian Slip’ Proves He and Trump Are ‘Creating’ Stories About Haitian Immigrants
EXCERPT:
CASTRO: “Well, I mean, there you have it, Chris. It’s ultimate Freudian slip. Basically, he’s acknowledging that these guys are creating stories out of thin air. Now, they say it’s somebody said this in Springfield or people in the city, they’re making this up. They’re taking lies based on racism, based on xenophobia. They’re engaging in what’s known as racial priming to try and stir resentment against these Haitian immigrants, and more largely against immigrants in general for political gain. And the fact that Donald Trump says now, well, I might go to Springfield, this is the same playbook, doubling down on hate and division to really appeal to his base. He has always bet in each race, 2016, 2020, and now in 2024, that there are enough people that buy into this hateful rhetoric that resent immigrants, whether they’re black or brown or from whatever country, that they’re going to go support him. In 2020, people said no to that. They rejected it, and I think they’re going to reject it again in 2024.”
