WaPo’s Anne Gearan: Clinton Camp ‘Kind of White Knuckle’ Ahead of Nevada

‘Nevada is the first test of anything other than the white vote and organizing power’

BRZEZINSKI: “All right, we’re back with Anne Gearan of the ‘Washington Post’. So, how would you describe — how would you characterize the state of the Clinton campaign right now as we approach Nevada?”
GEARAN: “Kind of white knuckle. They have to do well in Nevada and in South Carolina, which — which votes a week later and it does not look at this point like she’s going to do well in Nevada. She — if she wins there and it is at this point probably about tied, if she wins there it’ll be another squeaker, maybe not as close as Iowa, but a squeaker.” [crosstalk]
SCARBOROUGH: “What does a loss mean in Nevada?”
GEARAN: “A loss means in Nevada — if it was the only one it wouldn’t mean a lot.”
BRZEZINSKI: “Right.”
GEARAN: “But it will come on top of, you know, less than one percentage point in Iowa — victory in Iowa, absolutely — she got absolutely got creamed in New Hampshire.”
SCARBOROUGH: “New Hampshire, yeah.”
GEARAN: “And Nevada is the first test of anything other than white — the white vote and organizing power.”
SCARBOROUGH: “Right.”
GEARAN: “It’s a test of union support, it’s a test of Hispanic support, it’s a test of many things that she will need going forward. In many ways it will show flaws in her organization that weren’t revealed by the other two contests if she loses badly.”
SCARBOROUGH: “Mike, so what are you hearing about the inside — inside the campaign?”
