Susan Rice: People Who Are Mixed Race and One of Those Races Is Black, Are Viewed as and Typically Identify as Black

‘That’s what vice president Harris has done all her life’

EXCERPT:

RICE: “An American of African descent in this country, given our history, given how this country has, handled matters of race, that people who are mixed race and are -- and one of those races is black are -- are viewed as, and -- and typically identify as black. And that is what Vice President Harris has done all of her life. And frankly, it's not just because she went to Howard University and was in a black sorority. She is a black person because that is her background, her experience, and that is how she chooses to identify. And she doesn't have to do that at the expense of her Indian identity. It is possible Andrea to be both.”
