CNN’s Simmons: What Kind of ‘Strong America’ Do the Republicans Want? ‘Strong for What?’
EXCERPT:
SIMMONS: "The objective is for tonight talking about strong America. It just — it needles me. What kind of strong America? Strong America for what? What is the point of our strength? Is our strength so that we can kind of hide from these uncomfortable facts and we have book bans in Florida? Are we a strong America that's taking rights away from women around abortion? Are we a strong America that's sort of cowering from the — from the world and we’re not going out leading in some way that J.D. Vance is saying that he doesn’t really want us to go out and defend our values in a place like Ukraine. It just — it strikes me that, we’re going to be strong for what? Just so that we can hide. And that, to me, I think it’s something the Republican Party’s gonna have to wrestle with when it comes to America. I think most Americans see our country as being strong and leading and forward-leaning into the problems that the world faces."
