Vivek Murthy on Declaring Gun Violence a Public Health Crisis: We Need More Gun Control
‘There is more that we can do here and these should not be the last steps we take’
EXCERPT:
MURTHY: “You know, one of the things that gives me some hope here is that if you look at the last few years, we've seen some progress, five, six years ago, Congress actually, for the first time in decades put forward funding for gun violence. It was a modest amount of funding, a lot more has to happen there, but they also for two years ago passed the bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which is a first federal legislation to address gun violence in 30 years. There is more that we can do here and these should not be the last steps we take. There is -- there are more actions we'll need as a country.”
