‘The Law Here Is Not That Complicated’: Weissmann on Jury Instructions in Trump’s N.Y. Trial
‘The standard instructions are pretty clear in this kind of case’
EXCERPT:
WEISSMANN: “For this reason. I sort of feel like there has been too much emphasis on the jury instructions. As Joyce said, and as your question suggests, they’re obviously important, but I don’t think there are a lot of open issues here and I think we’re a little bit going down a rabbit hole and part of that is the DA Bragg is not going to have charged a case if he was trying to get an instruction that was sort of an outlier instruction and needed to convince the judge of something unusual. And basically, Judge Merchan said that. He said I’m just sort of playing it right down the fairway. I’m just going to give standard instructions.”
