MSNBC Guest: Justices Thomas and Alito ‘Long Ago Traded in Their Black Robes for Red Hats’
EXCERPT:
BASSIN: “Well, look, I will seize any opportunity to associate myself with Dahlia and Andrew, even if it is in error. But I think, probably we all could have agreed that for Thomas and Alito, I’m not surprised. Those two long ago traded in their black robes for red hats. But for some of the other ones, it really was surprising. And in one particular way that I think Congresswoman Lofgren hinted at, which is that Supreme Court justices, and in particular, conservative Supreme Court justices like to say that their job is limited to solely decide the case before them. They are not legislators. They are not making big pronouncements. They are deciding the narrow case before them. And what was surprising and amazing today is they did everything but address the case before them, which, as you pointed out at the beginning, Nicolle, was this is a case about whether a president should be immune from prosecution and accountability for trying to overturn the results of an election. That’s the case.”
