Lemire on Student Loan Forgiveness: They’ve Done Polling and They Know Biden Has Issue with Young Voters
EXCERPT:
LEMIRE: "The Biden camp has told me they’ve done polling where they know they have an issue right now with some young voters. The war in Gaza is part of that, but others have expressed frustration that Biden has not followed through on his campaign promise to alleviate student debt. The Biden camp and the White House said, 'We’ve done our part, it’s the courts that have knocked this down.' They keep trying to find creative ways to still get some done and voters can feel that. So I think some of this is a messaging issue. I think we’re going to hear the president talk about this a lot between now and November. Look, Wisconsin is, as we talked about with Charlie Sykes a few hours back, it's always a razor-thin margin of victory there. Many election projections suggest it is the tipping point state. We know how close it will be. And this is part of what the Biden camp believes — and abortion messaging factors into this as well — trying to shore up the base as they head into the fall, because they do feel, at least for now, like that independent swing voter is leaving their way."
