Mika Hammers Hoyer for Calling Sanders ‘Different’: It’s ‘a Little Bit of a Condescending Term’
RUSH TRANSCRIPT:
SCARBOROUGH: “Still trying to figure out Chris Christie’s murder suicide pack.”
BRZEZINSKI: “That was disturbingly fun.”
UNKNOWN MALE: “I can understand if he said I want to murder you.”
BRZEZINSKI: “I think, never mind. Joining us now Congressman of Maryland and now you’re entitled to a 25 second delay. You have to explain Bernie Sanders success to us.”
SCARBOROUGH: “It’s crazy. I remember telling people when Rand Paul was exploding and they said what was it like working with him and I said — now we have a Democrat, a guy like Bernie Sanders he was also sort of this guy off to himself and now the look, it’s like seeing your next door neighbor growing up to be bono.”
HOYER: “I think we have a lot of angry, upset people who think those guys who have been in charge aren’t doing a great job. They’re appearing to people not perceived.”
SCARBOROUGH: “You know Bernie. You’re surprised, aren’t you, the huge crowds out there?”
HOYER: “I’m not surprised at the disaffected on the left and right are looking for something different and I think in our party, Bernie is something different and the Republican Party has three candidates that are different.”
BRZEZINSKI: “There’s different like Donald Trump, very different. Bernie Sanders, I think different is a little bit of a condescending term. He has served for decades. He has been consistent, he has had integrity. He means what he says and says what he means. That’s something people are finally looking for. Might be different but that’s not his fault.”
SCARBOROUGH: “OK, Mika, let him answer.”
HOYER: “You’re using different as a projorty. You’re different than I am. That’s just a fact. Bernie has made himself an independent socialist voting with the Democratic Party and made himself different than the rest of the members of the Senate caucus. That doesn’t mean he’s bad or good but he’s different. I think Bernie speaks for folks who want to see something different. I think Rand Paul did the same. They want to see somebody who speaks differently and has a more expansive view.”
BRZEZINSKI: “Have you been able to work with him on anything?"
HOYER: “He was a member of the Democratic caucus. He was fine to work with and supportive of the policies that we wanted to put in place.”
