Walter Isaacson on Trump’s ‘Fascist’ Rhetoric on Immigrants: ‘It Was a Deeply Racist Call’

‘It’s deeply un-American’

EXCERPT:

ISAACSON: "Absolutely. It was a deeply racist call. And it is something that, as Secretary Johnson said, goes against the essence of America, which is whatever you came across on the Mayflower, you came across the Rio Grande, whatever, you came to be an American, and that's who we are as a nation. This is the great founding principle that happens, is that people of all religions and all backgrounds and all races came either voluntarily or involuntarily to this country, but we make them all into Americans. And that's the odious, odious stench of what he said, is deeply un-American."
