Mehdi Hasan: ‘It’s Frustrating that Biden’s Economic Message Isn’t Cutting Through Yet’
HASAN: "I would say, look, it’s not a choice, right? You can do both. You can walk and chew gum. I’ve never believed this argument that you can’t look back and look forward. And the reality is, sadly, whether we like it or not, most voters don’t like talking about the past. They want to know what you’re offering them for the future. They want to know what's coming next. Already there’s this argument about the economic legacy that we've talked about before. It’s frustrating that Biden’s economic message isn’t cutting through yet. He’s putting out ads pointing out that he supports workers, et cetera. That’s all great. But ultimately it comes down to a choice in this country. We have a two-party system. It's a presidential system, not a parliamentary system. You’re choosing between two men — as ever, sadly — two men to govern you next year, and that's what he has to make the choice about. Don't forget, in all the focus groups that show people are not happy with Biden, you know what happens at the end of the focus group in almost all of those focus groups? People say, 'Well, okay, Biden v Trump? Well, Biden then.'"
