Aishah Hasnie: Politicizing Youngkin’s Pardon on Dad Arrested at School Board Meeting Is ‘Revictimizing’ His Daughter

‘She’s going to have to carry this now for quite some time’

EXCERPT:

HASNIE: "First and foremost, don’t come after me or any other daughters out there because I can guarantee my dad would not have been as king as this situation. This guy did not assault anyone, he didn't threaten violence, he showed up and demanded that the school do something to protect his daughter. That’s not wrong. Second of all, can I just say really quickly, in all of this, we forgot the daughter. Everyone forgot the daughter. Okay, she was assaulted, and then everyone flipped and started talking about the whole situation and politicizing it. Meantime, she’s watching her dad now be prosecuted on top of being victimized. Can you imagine what that feels like as a young, young woman? Not only did you just get victimized, now you're watching your dad suffer through this, and how guilty you must feel for bringing your family through all of this. She’s going to have to carry this now for quite some time, PTSD. You know, like, it just baffles my mind that we’d re-victimize a young girl like that and say this is all political. I thought the most interesting thing that he said was that he didn’t want to be the face of a cause. Like, he just wanted to be a dad. Nobody wants to be the face of a cause. Nobody wants to create a situation that becomes national and now you have a governor forgiving — pardoning you. He doesn’t — nobody wants this. This is crazy."
