Gloria Borger on Ga. Case: Judge’s Ruling Says that Meadows ‘Overstepped’ and Violated the ‘Hatch Act’

‘When you’re working in the White House, you work for the government, you don’t work for a campaign’

EXCERPT:

BORGER: “Right. And we’re just going through it. But I think my colleagues here have gotten the crux of the matter, which is that what the court is saying is that Mark Meadows kind of overstepped and that he wasn’t acting as a chief of staff should act. He was actually acting as an adjunct to the Trump campaign. And when you mentioned the Hatch Act, Wolf, you’re not supposed to do that. When you’re working in the White House, you work for the government. You don’t work for a campaign. And there’s a line here that says the Constitution does not provide any basis for executive Branch involvement with state election and post-election procedures, period. It is not your job. That was not part of your job. So, you can’t claim that this should be moved because you were just doing your job because that’s not your job and you are acting unofficially.”
