Disney CEO Suggests He May Dump ABC and Other Networks: ‘May Not Be Core to Disney’
EXCERPT:
FABER: “Well, let's stop there for a second and -- and just -- and let me ask you about it. We're talking, I guess, ABC, the network, the stations, but then the cable networks as well.”
IGER: “Yes. Correct.”
FABER: “FX, NatGeo. Is it possible you would look to sell them?”
IGER: “We're going to be expansive. I think you can -- you can interpret what that word means. You know, we're just getting at that work. But we have to be open minded and objective about the future of those businesses. Yes.”
FABER: “Meaning that they're not core to Disney.”
IGER: “That they may not be core to Disney. Yeah. Now, there's clearly creativity and content that they create that and it's core to Disney, but the distribution model, the business model it forms, the underpinning of that business, and that has delivered great profits over the years is definitely broken. And we have to -- we -- and -- and we have to call it like it is. And that's part of the transformative work we're doing.”
