Gov. Roy Cooper Defends the Inclusion of Sexually Explicit Books in Schools While Arguing Against Parents’ Right to Move Their Kids Away from Failing Schools Using Vouchers
TRANSCRIPT:
COOPER: "Finally, what they’re doing in North Carolina is they are working to take the formulation of the school curriculum away from the state board of education and give it to some appointed political board. We all know where that’s going. We’ve seen book bans and whitewashing of history and culture wars getting into the classroom. This is why I declared a state of emergency in public education in North Carolina, because of the confluence of all of these issues that are being debated right now in the General Assembly. These decisions are going to, be made over the next few weeks. I want the people of North Carolina to talk with their legislators, to email them, to let them know that they want support for our public schools and our public school teachers, that they don’t want culture wars in the classroom and they want to make sure that our public schools are strong."
