Harold Ford Jr.: I Dream of the Day When White Actors Get the Nod to Play Black People
EXCERPT:
FORD JR.: "The thing about Richard Dreyfuss, he's always been on the inside from the standpoint that he at least had the opportunity to compete for roles. He had an opportunity to compete, I think for two reasons. One, the stories were written -- more stories were written for people like him, and two, there was some inherent racism. I think his point about mandates, some of the inclusivity things have gone too far, and you and I have had that conversation in public and in private as we talk about these things, but I think he needs to be mindful of the fact that the more stories that are written -- I actually dream of the day when he gets the nod to play a character that happens to be black and that other actors who may be white have, because that’s when you know we’ve reached a point where there is equality in terms of the stories being told and the roles being offered."
