Victor Davis Hanson: We Can’t Go Back to Romneyism or McCainism... The Republicans Haven’t Won 51% of the Vote Since ‘88
EXCERPT:
DAVIS HANSON: "Well, I mean, he may have a point but what are we going to go back to, Romneyism and McCainism? I mean, the Republicans hadn’t won 51% of the national vote since 1988, so there were problems. And when he looks — I mean, that’s one criticism of the midterm, obviously, but there were so many other force multipliers, Laura. They got outspent. They got completely surprised by the mail-in ballots, and they had warning in 2020. I don’t know why Senator McConnell put so much money in Alaska when he could have helped Blake Masters. There was misallocations of funds. So, I mean, Trump made a good point when he said, 'We’re not just critics. We’re going to give you positive solutions.' And he tried to do that for most of that hour. But that was one of the criticisms — they had good criticisms of the open border and gas and inflation and crime, but then everybody said, 'And? And? What are you going to do about it?' And they fell silent. Nobody had a Contract for America-specific agenda.”
