MANNING: "So, while I was in the military, especially under 'Don’t ask, don’t tell,' because this was with a — I was presenting as male and the other person was a male, so this would have been — even any kind of relation whatsoever that happened in that time frame would have been impermissible. Also, this was an officer-enlisted encounter and it became a non-consensual encounter. My immediate instinct was to hide it, to cover it up and to pretend that it didn’t happen, and it started to eat at me."
