Tim Kennedy on Botched Afghanistan Withdrawal ‘First Time You Saw Superman Bleed’
EXCERPT:
KENNEDY: “Yeah, I mean, as heart-wrenching and horrific those videos are, there is nothing like what was happening on the ground. You — thankfully, American eyes never got to see the horrors that took place on the ground in Afghanistan. Watching people fall from an aircraft is horrific. I’m not understating how better that was than what was actually happening on the ground. So, trying to make the claim that this isn’t going to happen, we’re not going to have helicopters pulling people off the roof, it’s just not true. There are burning bodies, there are dead babies hanging in concertina wire. Like the things of absolute nightmare were happening all around us, every single place that you looked. It’s something that hurt us on the world stage, it’s something that hurt us with our enemies and our allies. Everybody looked to us and realized how vulnerable we really are. It’s the first time that you saw Superman bleed, like the first time in a long time that we really recognized how dangerous a position America was and Afghanistan amplified that.”
