    RUSH EXCERPT:

LIGHTHIZER: “ Well I fear they will. I mean the Rationale which is that these are somehow inflationary is ridiculous, right? It makes no sense at all. When we put them in place inflation went down, not up. And numbers don’t make any sense. That is just a Rationale. So the real question, Larry, is, does this administration understand that China is an existential threat to the United States? And if they do, we need some kind of a strategic decoupling, strategic, not total, but strategic decoupling. Raising the alarm on China was one of the most important things that President Trump did in his administration. He changed the whole dialogue on it. And all this will be, will be a signal to the Chinese that they can go back to business the way it was with Obama and bush and others and take advantage of America. We’re shipping $350 billion a year to them and they’re doing everything consistent with unfair trade. So this would be a very, very bad signal. The reality is we probably need more tariffs, not less tariffs”
