SMITH: "Madeleine Albright’s family just confirmed the former secretary of state has died. She served as the first woman secretary of state in American history under President Clinton from 1997 to 2001. Ten years ago, President Obama awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Secretary Albright was born in 1937 Marie Jana Korbelova in Czechoslovakia. She immigrated with her family to the United States at age 11. A month ago today, a guest essay that she authored published in 'The New York Times,' the headline read 'Putin is making a historic mistake.' her family says she died of cancer. She was 84 years old.
