Halperin: Hillary Clinton Engaged in ‘McCarthyite Tactics’ Against Bernie Sanders (Mediaite)

Bloomberg Politics host Mark Halperin said on MSNBC’s Morning Joe that the Hillary Clinton campaign was engaging in “McCarthyite tactics” in their attacks against upstart Democratic rival Bernie Sanders.

Host Mika Brzezinski noted that the most recent attack on Sanders comparing him to anti-American Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn was “backfiring big time,” and that Sanders raised $1 million off the attack in less than 48 hours. “Mark Halperin, we said it before, you’ve been warning for some time, attacks against Bernie Sanders will only backfire,” co-host Joe Scarborough said.

“Particularly ones like this which, you know, McCarthyite tactics, where campaign isn’t willing to stand up and say– or the Super PAC– ‘This is what we’re seeing,’” agreed Mark Halperin.

“I interviewed David Brock who’s associated with that group and asked him repeatedly, what are you saying about Bernie Sanders? What’s your point?’ He wouldn’t say,” he said.

“For me, it’s illustration of the worst of both worlds for them,” Halperin said. “Bernie Sanders raises money off it, gets the high ground. I don’t think they did any damage to him whatsoever.”
