Betsy Woodruff Swan Defends FBI Participating in Jan. 6th Riot; ‘Happens All the Time’

‘Having informants at the sites of crimes is part of the way that law enforcement works’

EXCERPT:

WOODRUFF SWAN: "The next new line that we’re hearing from Republicans regarding this January 6th attack is this idea that since there was a report that there was an FBI informant among the group of people who were at the Capitol on January 6th, somehow this entire thing must have been orchestrated by the puppet masters at the FBI. First, it wasn’t a particularly good FBI informant because law enforcement didn’t know what they needed to know and that day played out the way that they did. And second, having informants at the sites of crimes is part of the way that law enforcement works. It’s the very basic blocking and tackling of law enforcement. It's kind of normal. The fact that this new fact, which, of course, is interesting and newsworthy, is now something that Republicans are twisting to argue that oh, first, January 6th wasn’t that bad, and second, if it was bad, it’s because the FBI was responsible for it, just shows the absolute delusion and the absolute detachment from reality that we’re hearing in, unfortunately, much of the discourse regarding that day."
