CNN: Largest Standing Confederate Statue of Robert E. Lee Comes Down in Richmond, Virginia Today

‘A huge moment for this to come down’

EXCERPT:

KEILAR: "Underway now, a 12-ton statue of General Robert E. Lee is being taken down in Richmond, Virginia. The largest standing Confederate statue in the country will be placed in storage until a decision is made about its fate. Joe Johns is live for us on the scene in Richmond this morning. You know, Joe, for people who haven't been to Richmond, I don't know — you can't really overstate how significant this is to that main thoroughfare that this is coming down."

JOHNS: "That's absolutely right, Brianna. And the significance of this, among other things, besides the fact that there have been these statues of Confederate figures all over the country that have been taken down over the last year.”
