The Dispatch’s Hayes: Trump’s Complaints Are All About Tantrum, It’s Not About Policy

‘This is not really a policy fight’

RUSH EXCERPT:

HAYES: “I think that’s right. It’s complicated because you have Republicans supporting some of it and Democrat supporting other parts. Mitch McConnell is sort of cleverly adding poison pills to this legislation that track exactly with what President Trump said he wanted when he decided to sign the big relief package. I think what’s important here is the context. This is not really a policy fight. It’s much more about Republicans having to respond to a temper tantrum from the president who is trying to steal an election basically. If you look at what President Trump is saying it’s about Donald Trump, not about the future of the country. It’s not about the future of the Republican Party and it’s not even really about Covid relief. If relief were so urgent one suspects the president would’ve made this happen months ago. It’s important to remember that his treasury secretary Steven mnuchin was at the center of the negotiations. He was on phone calls with members of the house and Republicans urging them to vote for the $600 relief but we could go. Now the president is calling for this $2,000 which complicates virtually everything republicans want to do. Stay one Mollie.”
