Politico’s Tim Alberta Likens ‘Fringe’ Tea Party to QAnon

‘It took a couple election cycles for the Republicans to try and get some of this fringe craziness out of their system for lack of a better way of putting it’

EXCERPT:

ALBERTA: “Here's what I make of it. It took a couple of election cycles after the 2008 victory for Barack Obama, it took a couple of election cycles for the Republicans to try and get some of this fringe craziness out of their system, for lack of a better way of putting it. So you had, in 2010, the big Tea Party wave, you had 2012 where there were some more Tea Partiers that came but it was a little more subdued. And then in 2014, McConnell and Boehner and the Chamber of Commerce, these guys really sort of purged their Republican Party of a lot of those more extreme elements, at least as far as they could in primary elections. So I think whether you are talking about Green, whether you are talking about Boebert out in Colorado, a few of these sort of fringe characters, again, to put it generously, I think it will be interesting to see what the resistance looks like from within the Republican Party heading into the 2022 primaries.”
