Kearns Goodwin: If Trump Made Wearing Masks a National Strategy, We’d Be in a Different Place
‘President Trump had the thought he had the power to decide when economies could open again’
EXCERPT:
KEARNS GOODWIN: “I was talking to a friend of mine the other day, and it was an amazing thing she told me, which is that she has an 80-year-old mother and her mother wouldn’t wear a mask and she’s been fighting with her, 'Why won't you do it?' She said, 'Because the President doesn’t want me to.' And more importantly, she said, 'I’ll look like a Democrat if I wear a mask.' I mean, the idea that the things we needed to do of social distancing, mobilizing our resources, of wearing masks as a national inspirational strategy might have put us in a different place now than we were then, it's really heartbreaking in some ways."
