Rochelle Ritchie: Charges Against Officer Are To ‘Pacify’ Minneapolis Protesters
RUSH EXCERPT:
RITCHIE: “Well, you know, Martha, it’s very reminiscent of what I saw happening in Baltimore in 2015 during the Freddie gray trial, and what I understand, a lot of people watching what is happening in Minneapolis, they are very shocked, some of them are angry at the looting and violence we have seeing. However, I think the trauma of seeing an African-American community right now is not a result of the — it’s the result of years of discrimination. Similar to Freddie gray, it’s also shocking to me, somewhat in a similar position that Freddie gray was when he died. I think the charges that will come from the district attorney are pretty much to pacify the protesters and those of us I would like to see stiffer charges. Plus, it took 72 hours, and even during a press conference where he said he’s been charged with murder and manslaughter, he did not say third-degree murder, a reporter actually had to ask him that, and he knew that charge of third-degree murder was a slap in the face.”
