Tavis Smiley: ‘Unconscionable’ No One at Rolling Stone Is Being Fired
SCARBOROUGH: “Tavis, Tavis, you were shaking your head."
It's tragic."[crosstalk]
SMILEY: “A few things very quick. One, it's hard to imagine how they could have gotten this story so wrong. Rolling Stone in the past has done some very good work and I think we would all acknowledge that. It’s just hard to imagine how they got this story so wrong, number one. Number two: the fact that nobody, nobody is losing their job over this is unconscionable to me. Somewhere Jayson Blair former [indecipherable] of The New York Times, is saying, OMG."
SCARBOROUGH: “Yeah.”
BRZEZINSKI: “Some other letters.”
SMILEY: “Exactly. I don't want to say that but he's saying something. I know Jayson Blair is saying, 'What the freak?!'' Is that better?”
BRZEZINSKI: “You scared me.”
SCARBOROUGH: “And the front door.”[crosstalk]
SMILEY: “Exactly. And the other thing is I think this long term does damage to women who do come forward with credible stories--"
BRZEZINSKI: “Once again.”
SMILEY: “Once again. Who won't be taken seriously now because we let this story out and nobody paid the price for it.”
BRZEZINSKI: “It's also the damage to the accused in this case and-- it's tragic.”
SMILEY: “All of the way around.”
